AIAMO in Behörden Spiegel: Leipzig as a model for sustainable mobility management
Cities are under increasing pressure to make mobility smarter, more environmentally friendly and more predictive - especially in view of growing traffic flows and stricter environmental regulations. In the current issue of Behörden Spiegel (June 2025), Mirko Mühlpfort (City of Leipzig) and Sabine Rieth (ITS Germany e.V.) provide insights into the AIAMO research project - and show how Leipzig is becoming a model region for data-based, AI-assisted mobility management.
The article focuses on specific applications from the Leipzig pilot region: a sensor-based air quality monitoring network, environmentally sensitive traffic control, digital twins and predictive mobility planning for major events or construction sites. It's not just about technical innovation - it's about solutions that are suitable for everyday use, transferable and easy to integrate into existing structures.
The applications are based on the AIAMOnexus, which combines the AIAMO integration zone - for the structured linking of decentrally distributed mobility data sources - with powerful AI Foundation Models. This creates a robust technological basis for a wide range of AI applications - from intelligent traffic control to the development of innovative data-based mobility services.
