Optimization and calibration of vehicle following models with drone data
From September 24 to 27, 2024, the 27th IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (IEEE ITSC) took place in Edmonton, Canada. Current research from all over the world was presented in over 1000 posters and presentations. One of our project partners (FKFS - Forschungsinstitut für Kraftfahrwesen und Fahrzeugmotoren Stuttgart) was on site and presented its paper. The results are also important for AIAMO and take our project an important step forward.
Dominik Salles, member of the FKFS, presented his paper on the optimization and calibration of vehicle following models for the simulation of heterogeneous road traffic at the IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems - IEEE ITSC. The expansion of transportation infrastructure is often limited by financial and spatial constraints. Simulations can be of great use in the investigation of traffic measures, especially in areas where changes would lead to traffic interventions. New intelligent systems can be tested in any traffic situation and their performance can be examined in advance.
The exchange with researchers from all over the world was particularly interesting. Here it was possible to discuss, further develop approaches and gather ideas for future questions and investigations. Some of the ideas collected are already being implemented.
Among others, our AIAMO representative Dominik Salles took part in the workshop “Vehicle Trajectory Data Camp: Bridging Traffic and Vehicular Research”. At this event, the speakers presented new, extensive data sets and showed how these and existing data (recordings) can be used to optimize traffic.
With AIAMO, we can look back on committed project partners who are involved in research in the field of mobility in a variety of ways.
